Painter's Thread Pearl Cotton #12 Pearl Cotton is a highly twisted long staple mercerized cotton thread. The high sheen is made by mercerizing the cotton and reinforced by the twisting. While using the thread the user may have to drop the needle occasionally to allow the thread to re-twist. Primary current uses are cross stitch, embroidery, needlepoint, and quilting {hand (with any size) and machine (with Size #12 only)}. For needlepoint generally Size 3 is used for 13 count canvas, Size 5 or 8 for 18 count canvas and Size 12 for smaller canvases.
